How To Keep Dyed Red Hair Red

My natural hair is blackness, but it'due south been bleached a few times so the natural pigment is gone. I normally dye my pilus with Garnier Nutrisse in shade 5 - Mocha. I fancied a change so decided to effort red! So I used Garnier Nutrisse once more, this time shade half dozen.60 - Fiery Reddish. It came out quite ruddy at the ends (equally my hair was lighter there to begin with) but it didn't terminal; the next time I done it, it just looked kinda brown- more like a mahogany color.

And then I dyed my hair red again on Friday- this time I used Schwarzkopf Alive Colour XXL Foam in shade 488 - Cranberry Kick. It came out a nice deep red (what I was originally later on, kinda similar how Cheryl Cole used to have it). I've washed it today and it'southward just lost the red intensity- once more! And I'thousand using a 50'oreal colour protecting shampoo

Why is this happening and what tin can I practice?

I'm tempted to employ Color B4 then use a red dye AGAIN, and hopefully the color will come out properly reddish and won't fade to brown. Would this work? Or is information technology best to go to a salon?

I would simply go for it, merely this will be the 3rd time I utilize Colour B4 and yous're not supposed to exceed that many times. So what tin can I do when I want to return to Mocha brown? Would it just go directly over the red and still come up out alright?

The brown should keep fine over the red, simply perchance go to your hairdresser if you really accept your eye set on scarlet!

I had some problem with keeping mine red when I beginning started dying it that colour, but it's fine now. I know this sounds silly merely are you sure it really is coming out? When yous first dye it scarlet the colour tends to be quite bright and intense but that volition rarely stay that way unfortunately, unless you lot have a really lite hair colour naturally. It will lose the brightness subsequently a couple of washes only if you stand under the light does the scarlet really not still show up nicely?

I use a range of different dyes - the L'oreal dyes are quite skilful. Endeavor non to become the x minute ones if possible because leaving it on for ten minutes is not long enough; don't exist scared to go a piddling over the time stated on the box if you recollect you need to - though obviously use your mutual sense there!

Some people's hair just takes better to dye than others. Also bleaching your hair does totally wreck it, so you might actually exist safer going to a hairdresser to get it done the first time circular.

I've been dying my hair cherry and imperial/cherry for about 2 years now, and my hair does hold it pretty well - naturally mid-dark chocolate-brown simply information technology naturally has quite a bit of red.
With ruby-red, the first few washes volition see the intensity fade a flake considering the dye doesn't all come out in the first wash, so that doesn't mean yous're losing all the colour!
Mine tends to last a few weeks being intense, then gradually fades out to a reddy-brown. The best dyes I've found have been L'Oreal - in particular Feria; it smells gorgeous and the colours last really well! The P37 Plum Ability is a lovely shade, and considering of the shade it is it lasts for the longest I've plant, although currently I'm on P48 Purple Ability and, although the imperial side faded out within two weeks, information technology'south quite a scarlet dye so my hair'southward non faded too much in the past calendar month! The scarlet one comes out well too. The L'Oreal casting creme gloss that Cheryl Cole promotes is alright, the colours aren't equally intense as Feria but they lasted pretty well; mine stayed scarlet for a while. Also, exit information technology on for the maximum time to give information technology more time to work.
The only trouble with Color B4, aside from it non smelling very squeamish, is that Schwarzkopf Live Color XXL can cease information technology from working every bit well (contains silicone which prevents the Colour B4 from removing all colour) and your pilus goes to the lightest shade that the dye's made information technology become (I went ginger...) and I plant that it didn't amend how the red held, nor the color itself.
Hope that helps!

Hello at that place, effort pre-pigmenting the pilus then applying your scarlet colourant.

Using either Colour B4 or Decolour Remover volition not really aid this issue and I volition explain why. When hair has been bleached the middle of the hair has been emptied of pigment. Red color molecules are very modest and if they accept naught to 'attach to' they rattle around inside the hair and with every launder (as the cuticle opens and h2o flows in) the scarlet pigment molecules will escape.

If you removed the colour you lot are effectively elimination the hair out again which is the contrary to what y'all need to do.

With Pre-pigmenting the hair, yous utilise a temporary colour molecule to information technology (usually in carmine). This volition fill up the inside of the hair. If y'all then colour immediately with a permanent scarlet shade the permanent color molecules will tend to 'connect' over the superlative of the bogus molecules and the middle of the hair fills and stands more chance of being trapped inside.

I'd suggest using Colour Restore Deep Red to pre-pigment and the try using one of the Garnier Reds to as the subsequant permanent color. You lot should run into a vibrant ruby. If you notice the color slipping in the hereafter you tin can rinse through more Colour Restore Deep Red to top up the paint levels and fill up any gaps without needing to re-color.

I can endeavour and give you lot more advice on this one (here) or you lot can catch me on the Facebook page (Scott Cornwall Hair Skillful) if I miss your reply (every bit I sometimes do on this forum unfortunetly).

Hope that helps

Hi there, try pre-pigmenting the hair and then applying your blood-red colourant.

Using either Color B4 or Decolour Remover will not actually aid this issue and I will explicate why. When pilus has been bleached the middle of the pilus has been emptied of pigment. Ruddy colour molecules are very pocket-sized and if they have aught to 'attach to' they rattle around within the hair and with every launder (as the cuticle opens and water flows in) the scarlet pigment molecules will escape.

If you removed the colour you are effectively emptying the hair out again which is the opposite to what you need to practice.

With Pre-pigmenting the hair, y'all apply a temporary colour molecule to information technology (usually in red). This volition make full the within of the pilus. If y'all and then colour immediately with a permanent red shade the permanent colour molecules will tend to 'connect' over the top of the artificial molecules and the middle of the hair fills and stands more chance of being trapped inside.

I'd suggest using Color Restore Deep Crimson to pre-pigment and the try using one of the Garnier Reds to as the subsequant permanent colour. You should see a vibrant red. If y'all observe the colour slipping in the future you can rinse through more than Colour Restore Deep Red to top up the paint levels and fill whatsoever gaps without needing to re-colour.

I can try and give you more advice on this one (hither) or you lot tin can take hold of me on the Facebook page (Scott Cornwall Hair Expert) if I miss your reply (as I sometimes do on this forum unfortunetly).

Hope that helps

Hello,

Thanks for the informative reply! Interesting and helpful I will probably try this in a few days. Thanks once again!

Guess no one as said that Red hair dye fades faster out hair compare to other hair dyes, too tin be the hardest to get out of the hair . If you lot are looking for bright cherry i would recommend using semi-per Manic Panic red or Directions hair dye over bleach pilus dye. Also tip to assistance it concluding its to add trivial scrap to your conditioner =)

Red colour is the hardest color to proceed if you don't naturally got carmine pigments in your hair. It will have more colouring, more ofttimes to proceed information technology at that place.
I'd recommend going to a hairdresser at beginning, and adding pigments to your hair since you've been dyeing it and then much.

My natural hair colour is chestnut ruddy/brown and it's quite piece of cake for me to get long lasting red colour from dyeing it, but I have friends whom had the same issues as you.

No it's really easy to get out (because the molecule is and then small) the issue with it existence difficult to get out is due to cuticle staining. Especially if hair has been bleached a crimson hair color (even Manic Panic or Directions) can stain the cuticle like cherry-red wine would stain white wool. This is what is diffcult to get out. In general, if the red is fading you lot'd have no trouble getting it out every bit there is no staining on the hair.

This is what I exercise to maintain my red pilus

1. Wash your hair with cold water
2. Dry shampoo is your holy grail for red hair, this prolongs the colour in betwixt washes, instead of washing daily or every 2d day, endeavor doing it every 3 days and if y'all know you lot're not going to be doing something for a week try waiting 4 days in between washes, the dry out shampoo makes your hair really prissy anyhow so you won't experience dingy and greasy - but be sure to launder elsewhere! xD
three. Deep condition your hair, they sell deep conditioner in packets for like 60p at sallys, proceed it in damp hair for 20 minutes or cover your hair in it, put a plastic pocketbook over and sleep with the deep conditioner on all night. Keeping your hair healthy is super of import because the dye will take meliorate to your hair.
4. Moroccan oil - this is really groovy, put it on the ends of your clammy hair and information technology just absorbs and makes your hair super shiny and soft, it'due south not oily and then information technology won't make your hair greasy either and it smells amazing.

and finally, starting time getting your hair dye from sallys, they accept loftier quality dyes yous won't go far shop and they'll be so much better for your pilus. I use Loreal Majicontrast in "ruby-red" with developer and you tin can use it on brown hair, no pre-bleaching needed! information technology'south likewise permanent and then for a ruby dye it does last pretty well. I can usually milk a month of colour from using the dye by doing all of the tips I suggested above. oh and my pilus is naturally night blonde then my hair went really bright scarlet, putting that dye on brown hair won't make it as bright but information technology will absolutely go carmine.

EDIT: If you lot want the shade of Cheryl Coles, get into Sallys and await at the colour charts, y'all'll definitely get that shade!

I accept exactly the same trouble And funnily plenty, I but used the exact same dye as you! :mmm: My hair is naturally dark but a while agone I had it bleached from blackness so that I could dye information technology gingery ruby, dye fades then fast it'due south unbelievable.

Colour Restore Deep Red sounds interesting though, I might attempt that!

I've read a lot of people mixing vegetable based dye in with their hair conditioner, and using that to top upward the color. Maybe you could try that? I don't know about you, but this is the kind of color I'k going for, I just can't decide which dye to attempt out. I'm thinking either Manic Panic vampire red, or Directions rubine?

If anyone has any colour suggestions that'd exist awesome!

If you want brilliant red pilus, yous need bleach. You will simply be able to achieve browny-red colours with box dyes because you lot're non lightening your hair enough to give the cherry a practiced base. Scarlet dyes rely heavily on scarlet 'stains' besides at the permanent dyes, this is why they wait bright but wash out.

If you want Bright red hair y'all accept a few options:

Completely bleach your hair, and apply red all over. The lighter you bleach your hair, the brighter the carmine volition be.
Apparently bleaching all over is very damaging for your hair, so you could go for the options of bleach bathing, though information technology will be a process that will involve many ginger between layers as you'll take to wait at least a week between bleaches.

2d option, if you desire to bleach your hair slowly (thus retaining the quality and not damaging it) over several months, but without having to exist ginger, I'd recommend using a highlighting creme equally an all over awarding, with a stiff developer. A product like bRed. This product is mixed with a developer (which comes in four strengths, 10, xx, 30 and 40. twoscore would demand to be used for very nighttime/black hair. 30 is usually sufficient.) The first time y'all apply the product, you'll become a overnice scarlet, but it won't be BRIGHT. However you lot can be happy with a ruby-red colour for 4-6 weeks and so apply again, and with each successive dye information technology will get brighter and brighter. The primal behind this product is that it is actually bleaching your pilus, just it's depositing dye also, and conditioning as well. Substantially you won't observe over 3 or 4 months that y'all're actually bleaching away your black hair to blonde, considering you're roofing information technology up with red!

I did this for a number of months. It started bright but all the same with brown undertones and the underside (where my hair was much darker) was pretty much mahogany.

Second application came out much brighter happier.

The above was done with 30 vol developer 4 weeks apart.

At this stage, essentially when yous're happy with the level of ruddy, you should stop using the product. This is what I didn't practice. And the outcome was my hair started getting uneven. Darker areas faded out to orange, lighter areas faded to neon pink. Information technology looked kinda crap after the first few washes because the colour was so uneven. Don't go this far, at the phase your hair is bright plenty you're happy with information technology, it ways your base is at present light plenty to carry off a adept red. This ways you essentially have blonde hair (as I discovered when I used ColourB4 to strip out all that red dye. Hooray! I've had red hair for half dozen months and I haven't had to spent more than than an evening looking blonde! Note: y'all don't have to use color B4. I only did it as I never expected to exist this blonde underneath!)

At this stage, your hair is blonde plenty to take veggie conditioner based dyes such every bit Directions and Manic Panic. These dyes are great. They're non actually dyes, they have vegetable colourings in them and are essentially conditioners. You slap them on, they're completely undamaging (and will in fact condition your hair!) so you tin use every bit much as you mayhap want whenever you want.

I now wear Poppy Carmine by Directions on my hair, (with plum streaks through my fringe.) The maintenance is fairly low. Every half dozen weeks, or as long as I tin bear it, a friend bleaches out my night roots using cheap bleach and 30 vol developer. And then we whack the Poppy Red on all over, exit it on for a few hours, and launder information technology all off once more. If I want to look especially overnice and vivid one day, I pop a bit more on an hour before I'1000 going to get in the shower or something. Some people mix the dye with their conditioner and so they're topping up every time they wash.

Having red pilus is a massive change to your routine. I only wash my hair once a week now, I have to exist careful non to touch information technology or run my easily through it besides much lest information technology get greasy quickly. I accept to carry an unbrella in instance of rain, and my wearing apparel often get rub off on them (but it always washes out!) I have pink bedsheets and pinkish towels to minimise rub-off, only I love it!

Sad for the ridiculously long postal service, I have only been there and done that and thought it would be useful to impart some knowledge.

Sorry for the ridiculously long post, I have just been at that place and washed that and thought it would be useful to impart some knowledge.

At that place is actually a way to get brilliant red pilus without dissentious your pilus with bleach, This is my verbal pilus colour
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Nx8r6-FDEn...t-reddish-hair.jpg

All you need is Loreal Majicontrast in Red, it will continue brown hair, I've used information technology on my natural dark blonde hair and also on my dyed medium brown hair and both created the aforementioned results.

http://www.coolblades.co.uk/loreal-majicontrast.html

It's literally the best dye I have ever used and I've been nigh every colour. I honestly tin't praise it enough

L'Oreal MajiContrast is the verbal same product every bit bRed except more than expensive for a smaller bottle.

Yous also are damaging your pilus with bleach. The product is mixed with programmer. It's just ruddy bleach, substantially.

L'Oreal MajiContrast is the exact same product as bRed except more expensive for a smaller bottle.

You also are damaging your hair with bleach. The product is mixed with developer. It'due south merely red bleach, substantially.

I would disagree with this to an extent, there can't be THAT much bleach, I've been using this for iii years now and my hair is really quite healthy and I don't go overly out of my way to take care of it, I'm sure if it was only red bleach my pilus would exist on my pillow when I wake up in the morning and it's not, especially since at times, I've but went two weeks in between dyes.

My signal really was that no pre bleaching is needed, the dye has a high degree of lift and therefore you lot don't have to damage it more past bleaching and so putting the dye on, that is all

My point really was that no pre bleaching is needed, the dye has a high caste of lift and therefore you lot don't take to impairment it more past bleaching then putting the dye on, that is all

It's bleach. Trust me. I'm naturally dark brunette and afterwards using MajiContrast and then removing that reddish overtone my hair was blonde. There is no way to change your pilus colour similar that without bleach, it's impossible. I'1000 not saying MajiContrast and bRed are bad products at all, for bleaches they are incredibly nourishing. I preferred bRed in the end as information technology is exactly the aforementioned product but works out a quarter of the price.

Hiya my moms a hairdresser, so i kinda know the basics.
I've recently dyed my pilus red also and and then i'1000 but saying what she told me,
my hair is naturally light blonde, but i bleached it to a white/grey colour, and then got bored and dyed information technology ruddy.
The bleach makes your hair porous and then, the bleach and your hair volition really absorb the red. This doesn't make it cherry-red, it makes it fade!! four'e washed my hair twice and its pink.
She said the only way to combat this is just to keep re-dying it, and eventually your hair will hold the colour. Its a pain and could take quite a few dyes, merely i'm certain it'll be worth information technology in the end.
I used a Clynol professional person red color first, which my mom got for me, but i used the alive XXL colour in real reddish, and i preferred that a lot better!
And then don't lose patience, it may take a while!!

Ive merely put a scarlet dye ( my hair is already dyed cherry-red) but the vivid scarlet I've just put on doesn't await right can I utilize another ruby-red dye on now ( 2 hours since I've dyed my hair )

(Original post by Barbara Fleming)

This thread is six years sometime, genius.
